PATROLLING THE PACIFIC
JAPANESE-AMERICAN COOPERATION. It was stated recently tlmt complete plans have been worked out in Washington and in Tokio for ;ho joint patrol of tho Pacific by American mid Japanese warships. Secretary Daniels asserted that the naval (experts of both countries had discussed the. situation at length and reached complete agreement Unofficially, it was learned that the United States will bo in sole patrol of waters off the American Pacific Coast and beyond Hawaii. This American patrol will probably extend as far as Guam. Off the China coast and on the important trade lines to Vladivostok", Japanese warships will co-operate to keep the sea clear of German raiders. While generally viewed as dual control, it is in reality tripartite, as British warships also are engaged in hunting down raiders in tho Piicific. On the Western Coast of Canada, American ships are doing a q;rcat part of the work, as there are few British war vessels in thoso waters, but in the_ far roaches of the ocean tho British Asiatic ileot is doing duty. One feature of the patrol will be the possible guarding of the Australian coasts bv Japanese war vessels. The major ships of the Australian Navy are understood to be in other waters, , :
