NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR DETENTION GROUP GOING TO EIPA ISLAND Arrangements aro being considered by the Defence authorities for the distribution of the recaptured Gorman prisoners of war. It is not intended to place all the men in'one internment camp again, experience having suggested that it will be safer to have them divided into groups. The details have still to bo settled. It is understood that one group _of the German prisoners will go to Eipa Island, on the southern side of Lyttelton Harbour. This small island is fortified, and it lias barracks and other facilities for the detention of prisoners. It was used years ago as a place of confinement for youths who refused to do their'drill under the universal training scheme. BUILDING A STOCKADE. By Teleifraph—Press Association. Lyttelton, December 29. Preparations which are being made on Itipa Island, in Lyttelton Harbour, indicate that that fort is to be used as an internment camp. It. is understood that such is the intention of the Defence Department, and that the barracks will he used as detention barracks.
