WORKED TO ITS MAXIMUM CAPACITY. London, December 28. The receipts cf the Pacific Cable Board in 1916-17 exceeded the expenditure by £90,926, but the contribution to the renewal fund was increased to £90,000, and £10,000 was contributed to the provident fund to meet the depreciation of the securities in which these funds are invested, leaving a surplus of £4231. Nearly nine millions of paid-for words in international traffic were transmitted, in addition to 650,000 words sent free respecting wounded soldiers. The traffic between Australia, Now Zealand, and tbe Pacific Islands amounts to 1,795,200 words.
