A visitor at present in Wellington is Miss Collinson, who ia a niomlier of the permanent staff of Sydney University as tutor in history and assistant to the director. Miss Nellie Drumnioml .«nd her father are paying a short visit to the Wairarapa. Sir Rohert and Lady Stout are staying at Glenalyon (Auckland). Sir James and Ladv Carroll are staying at the Central Hotel (Auckland). Miss D. 0. Hally is on a- visit to Auckland. News has been received by cablegram that Miss Elsio Williams, Lady Russell, and Miss Catherine- Russell, of Hawke's Bay, have loft England on thek return to New Zealand.

Quite a number of Wollington poqplo are in Auckland at tho Grand Hotel for the races—Captain and Mrs. Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Higgiiison, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Doughty, and Mr. and Mrs. Brio Biddiford. Visitors from other districts staying at the Grand Hotel also are: Mr. imd Mrs. Troutbeck, of Galatea Station, Kotorua North; Mr. and Mra. Harry Lowry, of Hawke's Bay; Mr. and Mrs. G. Hume, of Featherston.

Mr. and Mrs. Etherington and their two little boys are staying at Wharo Koa, Day's Bay.

Great sympathy will be felt for the relatives and friends of Mrs. Harry Bloomfield, whoso death has been announced in Auckland recently. Her mother. Mrs. Charles Grierson, has been living in Wellington for some time, and her sister, Mrs. C. A". Griffiths, lives in Hobson Street. Mrs. Bloomfield was well known in Wellington, and was very popular here. The Lady Liverpool Equipment and Red Cross Committee (Wairarapa branch) was responsible for entqrtainirig some 500 soldiers on Christmas Eve with a vary appetising repast. The Camp Commandant thanked tho ladies for their hospitality, and the Rev. H. H. Catherwood mado a speech appropriate to the occasion. A concert given by a Mnsterton party organised by Sirs. Woods, assisted by several soldiers, was subsequently heid in the Soldiers' Club. The artists and artistes wore entertained at supper by the officers, and thanked by Colonel Adams. On Christmas Day the hospital patients were given a dinner, and were the recipients of presents. The visitors wero the guests of Colonel and Mrs. Adams and the officers.

The engagement is announced of Neville W. Gilbert, of the Now Zealand Forces, son of the late Mr. T. Gilbert, of Woodvjlle, and Mrs. Gilbert, and Miss A. Muriel Watson, third daughter of Mr. J, A. Watson, 0.C., and Mrs. Watson, of Chadwick Manor, Knowle.

A very successful concert was given in the Victoria Military Hospital last Wednesday evening by tho nurees for the invalid soldiers. The ward was gaily decorated with coloured lanterns and festoons of lycopodium, and tho excellent programme was much enjoyed by the soldier guests. The programme consisted of a violin duet by Nurses Buckman and Jones; songs by Nurses Clark, King Thomas, and Buckman, and Sifters Suggit and Murray; recitations by Nurses,Mence and Aston; duets by Nurses'Haybittle and Clark, and Nurses Young and Clark; violin* solo by Nurse Buokman. Most of tlio accompaniments were played by Nurses Kerr and Still. After tho concert supper was servod in th,e ward, which gave the guests a pleasant opportunity of a talk with the soldiers. Among those present were Colonel and Mrs. Morico and their daughters, Dr. and Mrs. Barclay, and Miss Hester M'Lean. Matron Stott received the guests. Tho evening was greatly enjoyed by all present, and Boxing Night of 1917 will bo a very pleasant memory.
