CANTERBURY DEFEATS OTAGO By Telegraph—Press Association. Chrlstohuroh, December 26. Tho Otago-Canterbury match was resumed thin morning. Tho wicket was in excellent condition. Canterbury's first innings closed at 2.30 p.m. with exactly the same score as Otago~-171. Allardyce was top-scorer with a nicelyplaced innings for 39. Seven wickets wore down for 105, but a useful innings by Booth, who mado several fine shots, mado a valuable addition to tho total. Otago's second innings only yielded 104. Patrick again mado his runs by masterly cricket. The majority of the Otago batsmen looked to bo quite outclassed by the Canterbury bowlers—Read, who bowled unchanged, and was never collared, and Blunt, who bowled remarkably well. In their second essay Canterbury knocked up 110 for the loss of five wickets, thus winning the match by fivo wickets. Gray played a very sound innings, but Read, although he mado 34, was very scratchy. M'Beth, for Otago, bowled as well as in the first innings, but his three wickets cost fifty runs. was again an excellent . the public. At the Recreation Ground yesterday a friendly match, was played between Hutt and Old Boys, a very good game resulting.' Hutt batted first, and succeeded in scoring 196. • Aldersley and M'Kay saved their side from disaster, the former making 81 and the latter 01. Roche also scored 12. Old Boys iwefe disposed of for 89 only (Coleman 19, Harris 18). Hutt sent Old Boys in again. This timo tlioy did much better, hitting up 195 in quick time. Of this Binnie contributed a well-earned 82, although he gave three chances. The others who succeeded in getting double figures were Marris 30. Smyth 18, Coleman 11, and Kitching 11. Hutt (second innings) made 124 runs for fivo wickets, thus winning by five wickets and 46 puns. The high scorers were: Hughes 30, Slater 30, Palmer 24 (not out), and Rocho 16 (not out), Refreshments wero kindly provided by some of tho Hutt ladies.
