THE SAILORS' CHRISTMAS
On Christmas Eve full advantage was taken of the accommodation of +ho Seamen's Institute by the men : ji port. At night light refreshments were served. On Christmas Day there was a cervico at 11, when the missiohcr spoko of "A Changed World." Mr.. Fdmanson took the lesson, and Mr. Good was at the organ. In the afternoon stirring games were played by'tho men prior to tea; which was a gay event, tho table* groaning under the good faro provided by well-wishers, who were cheered by the men. Prizes came from many sources and were keenly fought for.' There was the true Christmas spirit at the song service, when popular carols and old-fashioned hymns, wero chosen bv the men, and beautiful solos song by Mrs. Mac Donald and J.'.iss D, Jones. Miss Holdsworth was at tho piano. Supper was served in an interval' and the prizes won in the sports handed to tho men, who were Messrs. Hcancv, Veale, Taylor, Sweeney, Holland. Burney, Fitzgerald, Burke, and Holland. The singing of "God bo With You." "Auld ; Asquaintance, and cheers for all who had helped closed a day that was indeed, a red-letter one for men just in from sea. Boxing Day saw a happy lot of men readv to cast.aside the cares of tho daV,'and when they left in a rpecial tram for the- country they enjoyed the rido the games, and pleasures ai ranged to. the full. ' Lunch, sports, and tea filled up a hi'ppy time till the return to the Institute, where a delightful concert was arranged jointly bv Miss M'lntyre and Mr. Bovd, who were most successful in ihe'r choice .of items and performers. Tim performers at the concert, which wis given before a full house, were the Misses M'lntyre, Neil, Poulter, Hariwr, and Thompson, and tho Messrs. Richardson, Kennedy, Dowler, Burridge, Hoole, Boyd, Hardy, Armstrong, and Masters Thompson and Martin. Miss M'lntyre was at the piano. She -iho handed the prizes to the winners. i'i the day's sports. They were the Messrs. Tavlor, Read, Frcckleton, Do Cuirsoy. Platzker, Hector, Bennett, Kainfo'rd, and Bourk. Supper, "God Save the King," and • "Auld Acoiiniiitanco" closed the Christmas pleasures. The seamen's cheers'Ycpaid all who had helped in'any. way,'
