A RED TRIANGLE HUT

REST, BOOM FOB THE SOLDIERS IN THE CITY. > The Red Triangle Hut, the name of the new soldiers' room on Lainbton Quay, is to be formally' opened early ui iue New Year, but was ready for guests on Monday. This latest enterprise of the Y.M.O.A. is designed' to meet the needs of the men on leave from Trentham and Featherston, who, for some considerable time, have felt the necessity of some central rendezvous in the city where they can obtain light refreshments, write a letter, leave their parcels, kits, or valuables, or spend a few pleasant hours in homelike surroundings. The location of the room, ■or as it is called, is the spacious apartment above Littlejohn's, formerly Godber's luncheonroom, opposite Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains' 6 establishment. '

The control of the hut is in the hands of the Y.M.G.A. National Council Camp Committee, which has arranged with Mrs. W. A. George to provide a staff of voluntary workers to carry on the whole of the work. The hut, from its appearance, should be a standing advertisement of how thingß should be done. Owing to the presence of a. large number of soldiers in _ the city just "now, many of whom have' no homes to go to, it was decided to open the rooms informally for their convenience during the Christmas days. At present the hut will be opeii exclusively to men in khaki. The decision of the Y.M.G.A. National Committee, in consequence of the delayed departure of the Thirty third Iteinforcements, to open, informally, the new Red Triangle Hut on Lambton Quay during the holidays for the convenience of men unable to get home has been well justified by the results. During Monday and yesterday a steady stream of men poured into the room and were very grateful for the opportunity of spending several hours there that otherwise would have proved very tedious. ■ Perhaps the most attractive feature about the hut is that not only are soldiers admitted, but if they are accompanied by wives or relatives, and even babies, these also were welcomed and entertained by the staff of voluntary workers, who felt amply rewarded for the somewhat strenuous nature of their work by the expressions of-appreciation. The Bed Triangle Hut will be a groat boon to nnrente and relatives coming to Wellington when the various reinforcements are leaving, as they can arrange to meet the men at the hut. This arrangement onlv holds goods.when.contingents are leaving At other times admission is confined strictly to men in uniform. We are desired to state that the hut will be open all day to-day till 10 p.m. '
