CITY MILK SUPPLY
The decision of the Hutt dairy farmers to erect a cheese factory under tho aegis of the Wellington Dairy, Farmers' Association is ono ivhich is to affeot the milk supply of Wellington as at present a considerable portion ol Wellington's milk supply comes from the Hutt Valley. The decision is all the more significant because it is at the urgent request of the association that the City Counoil is now erecting a olearing-house at towards the cost of which the association committed itself to pay £200. The pnca of milk to-day in Wellington retailed from door to door is fijd. per quart. The price was fixed by the Board of Trade, and the farmers oonsider that the prioo. they get does not allow of a fair margin of profit, all things oonMr. Peck, who occupied the ohalr at a meeting of dairy farmers held on Friday evening, outlined the reasons for Tecting a cneose factory at the Hutt. Thoy were not getting a fair deal from the Wellington City Council, and tho clearing-house, instead of being a benefit, was likely to be a drawback.
