Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., {.resided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, and heard the following eases:--t'or insobriety three first (•tenders were convicted and discharged. tliur Julius Neilson, against Wi-.om there was one provious conviction, .was fined 10s., in default forty-eight hours imprisonment. 1 Charged with stealing a .ox-rag valued at £15, the property cli some person or persons unknown, WHiam Henrv Cox was remanded for a week, and ou a second charge of drunkenness he was convicted and fined 10a., in the alternative .forty-eight hours' Kiip-ison-m Robert Dixon Warden was remanded to appear at Christchurch on December 27, on a charge of stealing from the dwelling-house of-Ehzabetn KfldKers, Bealy Street. St. Albans, a Rold hunting watch, valued at £8; a'-o witn stealing from the dwelling-hou9e of Emily H. Archenhold money and jcwelierv to the value of £25 _ls. B<l. Two charges of removing sand and gravel from Ohiro Beach on November 24 and 27 respectively were rreferred against Walter Hadley. He pleaded nSilty to the first and not guilty to the second. Acting-Sub-Inspectov Emmson stated that the removal of the sand and travel was doing a lot ox camage to tho roadway. It was proposed to establish a- quarry at frocks, a "« if the road were destroyed it nuuld be a serious matter to the city. . At-er bearing the evidence the Magistrate recorded a .conviction and hjed' j defendant £2 and costs on each ol tho charge Thomas .lames, who had been previously convicted and fined, was fined £5 and costs. Mr H. F. O'Leary appeared oi Maud Lillian Taylor who prodded against her husband, George lleniy Taylor, for wliom Mr. P. A\ ; Jackson appeared, to obtain maintenance. AftcT hearing evidence an order or 30s. per week was made.
