MR. NOEL ROSS, JOURNALIST. London, December £0.

Mr. Noel Ross, a New Zealand journalist, has died from typhoid fever — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

Mr. Noel Ross, who was about 25 vears of age, was tlio only son of Mr. Malcolm Ross (New Zealand official war correspondent, and special correspondent of several New Zealand metropolitan journals before the war). Ho was educated at Christ's College, and commenced his journalistic career on the staff of our evening contemporary, f.ubsequently joining the Auckland "Herald" .-and; Inter the Christchurch "Sun."'. In Wellington he had been an enthusiastic member of D Battery, and when the war broke out he enlisted nt once with the Main Body. Ho was present at the landing on Gallipoli, being range-finder for his compajiy, with the rank of lance-corporal. From Gallipoli he was invalided with shell shock, and was subsequently discharged as nvedically unfit, He went to England and on, his recovery qualified for a commission in the Aitiller), but was obliged to take his discharge on account of ill-health. An account of his experiences cn Gallipoli hroucht him under the notice of London editors, and-he contributed numerous articles to the ''Daily Mail, i "Punch!" and "l'he Times," and eventually joined the staff of the lastnamed journal. . With his_ father, he was associated in the publication of a volume of war sketches, "Light and Shade in War." which mot with a favourable reception. A letter .recei/ed from liim by tlio last mail stated that lie represented "Tho Times" on iho occasion of the King's visit to the Grand Fleet, in September. Mr. Noel Ross had had another book accepted by Cassell and Co., publishers, and this was to be illustrated by George Morrow, of "Punch"' fame. Recently tho news of his engagement to a young English lady was received in New Zealand.
