The rough weather' has delayed the Kahu At Napier, and she is now not due here until Saturday. 'In the evening she will again sail for the East Coast to loud wool for Wellington. An unexpected arrival ta Lyttelton on Tuesday morning' was the auxiliary schooner Fairbairn. which was bound for Dunedin from Wellington. She aimed about half-past eight, and it is thought that her object was to shelter from the heavy seas that were prevailing along the coast. The work of loading cargo ! nto the Hnia yesterday was hindered by the baa wcathor, and consequently her departure for Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Waltara was put off to to-day. Cargo will bo receivod until. 11 o'clock this morning. The colliers Kini and.Komata sailed.last night for Greymouth and Westport respectively On arrival they will load again for Wellington. At Greymouth yesterday the weather moderated sufficiently to allow the lvowhai to cross outward for Wellington, and it was expected that at midnight tlie Kamo would bo able to sail for Welling, ton Both steamers have full cargoes for this port. The first standardised cargo ship built, according to the American Government's programme, is ready for launching at Seattle. She will be named Adlon. The vessel has been built of steel, and will use oil fuel. The Adlon is of 8800 tons gross register, and cost £300,000. Twenty-eight requisitioned ships which are in course of. construction will be ready very shortly, their tonnage ranging 'from 3000 to 13,000. Rumours are current of tho starting of new shipyards in various parts or. tile Old Country (sayß "Fatrplay"). In Borne of the new yards it is proposed to lay down a new type of standard vcbecl, in which i rapid construction will be a feature. At 1 Newport application has been made for a Bite on tho river, with an area of over 20,000 square yard!. . Tho Shipping Committee of tho I'nited States Council of National Defence and the United Stales Shipping Board havo decided on plans for tho formation of a chartering committee, and it is presumed that Amerioan merchant vessels will soou be requisitioned at rates from 12s. to 625. per ton for Atlantio cargoes, which rt presents a cut of from 65 to 75 per cent, (states "Fairplay"). Should circumstances render such a stop necessary, the Government may seize tho 400,000 tons of neutral shipping in United States ports, to bo cmployed in trading with Australia and Java,
