SOLDIERS' SENTENCED
ONE MAN TO UNDERGO TWO YEARS' IMPRISONMENT. . It is announced in Trentham Camp Orders that the proceedings of district-court-martial on'the undermentioned soldiers have been confirmed, but the sentences of all the men, with ti. exception of Privates P. Skinnon and R. F. James, have been mitigated so that if the accused embark for aotivo service outside New Zealand before the expiration of their sentences, then, on arrival at the overseas base of the unit to which they are attached, the unexpired portion (if any) of their sontences will be remitted and their records endorsed accordingly:— 61,325 Pte. G.'. Metcalf, Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements), found guilty when under or- i ders for activo service of deserting His Majesty's Service, sentenced to 112 days' detention. 61,428 Pte. A. H. Taylor, Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements), found guilty when" on active service of deserting His Majesty's Service, sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for six months. The finding has been confirmed, but the sentence varied to 112 days' detention. 63,341 Pte. W. Hill, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements), found guilty when on active service of deserting His Majesty's Service, sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for 112 days. The finding has been confirmed, but the sentence varied to 112 days' detention. 61,255 Pte. A. J. F. Foster, Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements), found guilty when on active service of deserting His Majesty's Service,' sentenced to 40 days' detention. 61,932 Pte. M. Reidy, Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements), found guilty when under orders, for active service of desertiiig His Majesty's Service, sentenced to 112 days' detention.
71,886 Pte. P. Skinnon, Trentham Details, found guilty of disobeying a lawful command given by his superior officer, sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for two years. 64,521 Pte. R. F. James, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements), found guilty when on active service of deserting His Majesty's Service, sentenced to 28 days' detention. Tho sentence has been varied to a "reprimand" instead of detention. 59,834 Ptc. J. Wharton, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements), found guilty, when on active service of deserting His Majesty's Service, sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for sis months. The finding has been confirmed, but the sentence varied to 112 davit' detention. 64.643 Pte. K C. King, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements), found guilty wlien on activo service of deserting His Majesty's Service, sentenced to" imprisonment with hard labour for six months. The finding has been confirmed hut the sentence varied to 112 days' detention. 59,746 Pte. P. H. Stenrne, Trentham Details (late Thirtieth Reinforcements), found guilty of deserting His Majestv's Service, sentenced to 84 davs' detention. G2.020 Ptc. W. .T. Ocilvy, Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements). found guilty of absenting himself without leave, sentenced to 56 rlotnntion. 50,825 Pte. J. .T. Stella. Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements), founfl giiiltv of deserting His Majesty's service, lias been -sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for two years. The finding is confirmed, but the sentence is mitigated to one of six months' imprisonment with hard labour.
