MASTERTON NOTES
The mild spring and dry season has caused an appreciable increase in the rabbit pest in the Wairarapa. Masterton and distriot ladies are being invited to furnish tho Returned Soldiers' Club, and \vill probably take steps to do so. During the past quarter the Masterton Fire Brigade has received six calls, only two of which were for fires in buildings. A*demonstration is to be given by two poultry experts at Mr. W. ]{. Kernball's poultry farm, near "Masterton, on Thursday. . The Rev. Simonds, of Auckland, has offered to again visit tho Wairarapa, in company with a photographer, to gather further Information regarding the eucalyptus tree. His offer has been accepted by the executive of the Farmers' Union.
Tho Masterton bowling chilis will not" be represented at the Dunediirtournament. A rink from Carterton will, however, make the southern trip. At a ■combined meeting of llie Efficiency Board Trustees, the Wheat Committee, and the mill-owners of the Wairarapa, the following resolutions were carried:—(l) That thrashing charges be by the bushel—Gd. per bushel for wheat and sd. for nats; (2) that the only thrashing to bo done .by Hie hour be in the case of inferior crops; (3) that small quantities be charged at the rate of £2 15s. per set, ono sot to cover 110 bushels; (1) that all grain-growers Fe circularised tegarding labour, prices, etc., so that the distriot may bo worked systematically aud over-lapping prevented.
