SWIMMING

THE NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. The Council of the New Zealand Swimming Association met on Iriday evening, Mr. F. H. Bowler presiding. There were also present: Messrs. J. R. Buclianan (Nelson), S. Baird (Auckland), C. Bryant (Wanganui), B. O'Neill (Wellington), I>. N. Rund e F. D. Stokes (Canterbury), and F. C. Fantham (Westland). _ ' The Wanganui Centre wrote stating that it proposed to provide a shield for inter-schools competition, and asked if the council could contribute £10 towards the cokt. The council has no money for this purpose. . r The Wanganui Centre wrote inquiring whether, if • the Dominion championships proved a failure, the council would help the ccnfcro to meet the burden. . Mr. Bryant moved that in the event of there being a financial loss, tho council, while not committing itself, would do all in its power to assist. This was carried. It was decided that a conference of centre representatives be held at Wanganui in February, at the time of the holding of the Dominion championships. Permission to name the shield for competition at the Dominion _ championships the Anzac Shield having been refused by tho Hon. G. W. Russell, it was decided that the shield be named the War 5 Memorial Shield. It was decided that the Wellington Centre be written to asking it to endeavour to obtain for competitors travelling to the Dominion championships the samo concessions on tile railways as were granted last year. Mr. Stokes gave notice to move at the next meeting of the council:— "That in all surf reel competitions in wiiich a prize is offered an amateur may connote with a professional without losing his or her amateur status, all prizes to bo as laid down by the N.Z.A.S.TJ. Mr. Bairtl gave notice of a remit' for the next conference of centres that a 2'2ovds. ladies' championship be added to the list of New Zealand championships.
