AVhafc will eventually be done with the area has vet to be decided. Mr. Alex. Ross, engineer, is about to vacate his premises which will leave only the Turkish Baths property occupied of all. the buildings that are to bo ultimately demolished. In the meantime the lessees havo an assurance from the tity Council that they will not be interfered with during the period of the war. The clearance of these two buildings will still leave the old one-story foundry or garage building on the scene This is included in Mr. Samuel Gilmer's leasehold. Mr. Gilmer proposes later on to extent tho Royal Oak Hotel ovor tho block, but a narrow strip of land is to bo taken off the Manners Street side for the purposes of street widening. One proposal already made is that the land to be cleared should bo utilised for the purpose of a reservo which would include wellbuilt retiring rooms and lavatory for women and children—a convenience badly needed in mid-Wellington. In the meantime the skin of asphalt will help to keep the vicinity reasonably clean.
