Emerson has been engaged to rido Battle Eve in the big Handicap at Timaru. The Treadmill Holding showed a lot of pace in his rae-s at Htccarton, - and tho small field to-day should suit him. Tho defection uf Vagabond from the Auckland Cup <xiue a 6 somowhat of a Burprißo to local followers of racing, as tho three-year-old gelding had shaped sufficiently wol\ nt Woodville to suftKCSt tint ho ha,d a chance in tho big event at Ellcrslie. K. ][ C ed will now ride Mcnelaus. T. and K. Quinlivan, with ten horses, and J. 11. Jeffcrd, with a team of three, left Napier on Saturday by boat for Auckland.
Noir (All Blackl-Wairakau) dropped dead while working at Hastincs last week. A. post-mortem showed his heart to ho badly affected. Mr. J. J. Corry, of Blenheim, has nurchased Good Hope from Sir Geo. Clifford. As a two-year-old Good Hope won tho O.J.C. Champagne Stakes. At a meeting of the Auckland District Committee, held on Thursday last, tho appeal of J. C. Gleeson against tho decision of the Takapuna Jockey Olub was dismissed, and his deposit of £5 wis ordered to bo forfeited. At a meeting of tho A.1t.0. Committee, held on Thursday, resolutions of condolence and sympathy with Mr. 31. T. Gorrio, vice-president, and family, in tho loss of tholr second son at the war, and also with Mrs. M'Lean and family in tho loss sustained by the death of Mr. Jlurdoch M'Lean, were passed In silence, tho members of committco standing. Handicappor Jlacltauemin has every reason to be gratified with the final payments received for the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap, and also the acceptances for tho minor events. Eighteen horses are left in the Oup, and a similar number in the Railway Handicap. Bon was omitted from tho list of acceptances for the President's Welter Handicap at the Timaru Meeting, but J. M'Combe's charge is to contest tho raoe. Tho New Zealand-bred Registration (Demosthenes-Culmination) ran Becond to Broko in the second division of tho Nursery Handicap at Canterbury Park (X.S.VV.) od December 1. Tho South Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting lakos place to-day. There are only four horees engaged in the Hurdles, and San Sebastian is the only one with any credentials as a jumper. In tho Summer Stakes, five furlongs, Donnata and Bomb are both winners, but a maiden in Carol Singer promises well. As a two-year-old she hod plenty of pace, but went soro, and could not fulfil her engagement in the Welcome Stakes. Sho had a reputation last season, and may show up to-day. There are only nvo acceptors in the big Handicap with Margerine on the 9st. mark. Tho raco between the mare and Battle Evo should bo interesting, but if the Welcome Stakeß winner could only be persuaded to do his best there would be little doubt as to the rosult. Winter Oherry a winner at Ricoarton may bo a hot order for the Bix furlongs Hack Handicap, and Bon may carry most support in the President's Welter Handicap. In tho Maiden Plato backers may mako a set for Phil May, who was heavily supported in much better company nt lilcoarton last month. <'
