' MUST APPEAR PERSONALLY. The appeals ot"three religious objectors were before the Third Wellington Military Service Board yosterday. Norman R. Alderson, clerk, Wellington ; Ernest C. P. Dexter, switchboard operator, Wanganui; and William A. Shires, market gardener, Pakowhai, liad appealed on the ground that they wore Christadelphians, and that tho tenets of their sect forbade them to boar arms. The men were represented by Mr. J. M. Torup, and did not appear personally. The chairman of«tho board (Mr. D. M. Findlay) said that tho procedure was not satisfactory. Tho board required the personal attendance cf religious objectors, in order that proper inquiries might bo made. It wished to be satisfied in all cases that the reservists themselves had initiated tho proceedings. Mr. Troup said he had been given to understand that tho board would act upon a signed declaration forwarded by the reservists. Tho chairman insisted that iti future appellants must appear personally. The appeals of "Bexter and Shires were allowed. Tho case of Alderson was held over until January for inquiry.
