CITY COUNCIL AGAIN DISCUSS IT. Councillor J. Castle moved at last evening's meeting of the City Council: "That the resolution pas'ed at tho meeting of the council hold 011 November 29, adopting tho report of the Reserves and Public Gardens Committee permitting Sunday play on the tennis courts at Williams Park, Day's Bay, be rescinded." Councillor W. J. Thompson seconded tho motion. Councillor L. M'Kenzie said he would ,sup|>ort this if the mover would go the wliolo way by closing the Zoo, cutting off Sunday trams, cxcopt t,o take people to church, and so on. He,moved an amendment, in that direction, but tbo Mayor said lie could not accept tho amendment 011 top of a rescinding resolution. • Councillor J. Godber said it was better for young people to play tennis on Sundays than to lie about tho beaches in a semi-nude condition, or to 101 l about "smooging" in the bushes. Councillor M. F. Luckie referred to what he termpd the hypocrisy of councillors in wanting to stop tennis cn Sundays when it permitted bathing, ote., and even ran the trams to the bays; for profit 011 Sundavs in contravention of the laws of God.

Councillor G. Frost, who opposed the motion, spoke of the "inconsistency of the goody-goddies" who drove out 011 Sundavs in their motor-cars but desired to prevent others having a little recreation. The motion was defeated by 8 votes to 7. The "Aves" were: The Mayor, Councillors Atkinson, Dennett, Castle, HUdreth, Thompson, and Wright. The "Noes" were: Councillors Barber, Frost, Godber, Luckie. M'Kenzic, Norwood, Shorland, and Yeitch.
