PRISONERS SENTENCED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, December 12. In tho Supreme Court to-day, Kaho Mate, for perjury, was fined f/5, with costs £3 18s. His' Honour said that this was not to bo taken as a precedent. There were exceptional extenuating circumstances. Accused was of good character, and was influenced by Natives, and perhaps pakehas,_ to commit perjury in a recent licensing case. William Ternka. for forgery of three cheques at Morrin'svillc, was admitted to probation for three years on tho first count, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon on the other counts. Harry Roddin Soencer. for attempted carnal knowledge nf n girl tinder the age of sixteen, at Ne.iniawahin, was sentenced to two """ars' imprisonment. Francis Thomas HiMcs. on a charge of assault of Oeorw Dohertv, nliionintr" elerk, at Whnkatane. by breaking his jaw, was found not guilty.
