AS BAD AS A SERIOUS DEFEAT
THE LOSS OF THE GERMAN CHEMICAL WORKS.
London, December 10. The Press Bureau, in a further statement regarding the military importance of the big German chemical works which were blown up recently, says "The factory supplied two powder works, including that at Rotweil, one cf the most importaut in Germany. Other explosives manufactured at Grieshemi included those for the Tonig Factory, which produced electrolytic hydrogen for inflating Zeppelins, asphyxiating gas, lachrymatory and poisonous shells. It was the greatest centre in Germany for the output of poisonous gas. In 1916 six hundred thousand cubic feet per day were manufactured. The deaths of scores of trained wftrkmcn and specialists have increased the difficulties of coping with the deficit in the articles manufactured at Griesheim, upon which every concern in Germany is more or less dependent. It will he impossible to reconstitute the works during the war period, and the effect will sooner or later be felt at the fighting front. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
