CHRISTMAS CHEER TO* BE PROVIDED.

With a view of providing (llmstmas cheer for the soldienr in 1 sanatoria, and convalescent homis throughout the Dominion the . Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. (*•. »• Russell) has resolved to comm tunicate with every hoard and controlli UK authority of institutions where soldiers are located, requesting them to p roviao special Christinas entertainments lor the men, the cost of which wiUbo pro vided from the patriotic funds op ined from tho display of ; war films. l lNncse moneys are in the hands of the JJepartment of Interna r Affairs. Up"II the present the Y.M.C.A., which itas been in charge of these displays .all over New Zealand, has forwanied to j.be Department the sum of £405.astiM Government's share of the prafits fr.sm the exhibition of these films. Out -or this the Minister proposes to sne;«a up to £200 on the entertainment of t »e men at Christmas. . .. With this sum it should he possih w to aivo the men'a really respectablb treat. On December 3 there were ;11 soldiers and discharged soldiers,iu hos ■ pitals in New Zealand, 281 being soldiers and.423 discharged men. At tho' same date there were 488 out-patients , being treated at institutions, 269 of them soldiers and 219 discharged' soldiers. _______
