TECHNICAL SCHOOL

ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION

Tho annual prizo distribution of tho Wellington Tcohnlcal School was hold in tho Coucert Chamber at tho Town Hall yesterday afternoon. Thero was a full attendance of pupils, with paront6 and friends, bo that tho Catherine was lsrge onough to fill tho hall comfortably. As in moat other schools slncc the outbreak of war, tho pupils had agreed 1o forego their prizes, and to accept certifioaies instead of thorn. The chairmaa of I.hc Technical Hehoul Board (Jlr. George Frost) presided, and he was supported on the platform t-y the other members of tho board. Addresses wore delivered by tho chairman, tho Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke), and J f r. H. M. Goro (who represents the Academy or Fine Arts on the board). Tho thomo of all tho speakers was tho same—the excellent work dono by tho director and the staff in tho faoo of grave difficulties, nna the groat, need for better accommodation for the school classes. The director (Mr. W. S. La, Trobe) «poho at some length on tho working ot tno school for tho yean and ho also main reference to the lack of proper facilities for tho easy and efficient working of tho school. He thanked tho board for fflorts made continuously for the benefit ci tho school, espeoially in tryiag to indueo the Government to bnild a new technifial school. Ha offered thanks also to tho staff, who had loyally assisted him under circumstances which made tho work of a teacher or instructor anything but, easy. He included in his thanks the lioarde or Control, who assisted in tho presjribing of tho courses of instruction in trades objects, and 'ho different contributors to the fnnds ofithe Bohool.
