SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE

Sixteen delegates assembled at tho meeting of the Second Division held in Greytown on Friday night for tho purpose of conferring as to the attitude to bo adopted by the AVairarapa branches in regard to the question of future activities in the matter of continuing to protect the interests of Reservists and soldiers generally, and effectively promoting the views of tho Federation of Second Division Leagues. Mr. J. P. Thompson, president of tho Greytown branch, was voted to the chair. Following upon a full discussion of tho local and national situation as concerning the federation, it was unanimously resolved to form a AVairarapa centre, and that the president and secretary of each branch be constituted an advisory committoe. The appoiutment of an executive was urged as necessary to deal with an emergency and give tho committee as well as branches fi lead as to united action, but the election of such officers was left in the hands of the Advisory Committee. Mr. A. C. Holms was elected secretary pro tern. ■ It was resolved that an affiliation fee of 10s. 6d. be levied upon each branch. Mr. J. G. M'Kenzie brought fonvard the matter of arranging a Wairarapa and Dominion publicity campaign through the medium of platform speeches and the Press, and the meeting' endorsed action on tho lines indicated.

. A motion was carried giving support to the Ceutral Executive's representation as to the necessity for paid clorical assistance, and urging, on the motion of Mr. J. H. Fieldhouse, the appointnlent of a representative in each leaguo centre, and on the Central Executive, through whom applications for financial assistance could be sent, the duty of such representative being to supervise the filling-in of forms. The convener (Mr. A. C. Holms) reported that the movement was indebted to Messrs. A. J. Toogood and T. 0. Haycock for substantial contributions.

The meeting offered its congratulations to the Hon. T. M. Wilford, recently appointed Minister of Justice, and tendered him thanks for his wort on behalf of the league. Thanks were also tendered to Messrs. J. T. M. Hornsby, M.P., and H. P. Toogood, provincial vice-president, for valuable and sustained assistance. The Central Executive was accorded an expression of appreciation, special mention being made of tho untiring efforts of the Dominion president (Mr. R. A: Armstrong) and hon. secretary (Mr. C. IT. Chapman).
