MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE CASES
The police business in the Magistrate's Court yesterday wa-s dealt with by Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M. Peter M'Carron was fined £1 for insobriety, and was ordered to make good damage which he did in the police cell, and to pay the cost of medical treatment. These expenses amounted to £2 15s. Robert Dixon Warden was remanded till December 14 on two charges of theft in Christchurch. CIVIL BUS NESS A WAGES AWAED. J. and M. Hawkins, trading as the London Pie Shop, were proceeded against by the Inspector of Awards on a charge of failing to pay an employee the award rate. Miss Fitzgerald, the employee, was charged with accepting less than the award rate,._ Mr. Riddell, S.M., said it was impossible to come to a satisfactory decision on the evidence before him. The case was adjourned for a week for further evidence to be produced. A FISHERMAN'S CLAIM. Bartolo de Stefano, fisherman, Island Bay, sued Liberate Mio, fisherman, for £6 13s. 4d., as the balance of wages due. Mr. Biddell gave judgment for the plaintiff, but remarked that there was a confusion of interests, and that defendant thought that he bad not been quite properly treated.
