A BREAK AT CHRISTMAS. TJiu Government has determined, after consultation with the Public Service Commissioner, that tho public oflices in New Zealand, not inoluding tho post office or those other offices which (leal directly with tho public, shall close for tho Christmae holidays on the evening of Friday, December 21, to reopen on January 3. In making this announcement yesterday tho Hon. G. W. Russell said that the pressure on,the Department now, on account of tho largo number of men who had left for military service, was such that it was practically certain that leave during .the coming year would probably be Severely restricted, and this concession of extended Christmas vacation was being given in consideration of this.
