THE NAVY LEAGUE

The Executive Committee of the Navy League met on Tuesday. There, wew nresent: Mr. J. 1* Harcourt (cliairr,ian), Messrs. A. Atkins, C. R, Smith, R. Darrocli, A. F. Wire", Barry Keying, C. W. Tlris being the first meeting since the election of the committee, the Honsecretary presented a report suggesting certain activities for the year. It was stated that prooablv t-ho most important function of tho i m J League in New Zealand was the education of the boys and girls m t'i a knowledge of .the value of sea pwci. Suggestions were made for the esta lislimcnt of school branches during next Tear, but the ultimate programme to 'be adopted was left in'abeyance until Mr' C. 11. Smith had bad a" oppoitui - it\ of consulting .the Otago branch with regard to the methods adopted In it. It was mentioned that there aio 5000 school members ronnectod witli the Otago branch, and favourable comment was made upon their organisation in the rchool.- Ot'ier .uggostKn were made for the conduct of the Wellington branch. It was pointed out that at present tho league is carrying on its operations in three separate localities. This was considered n <■*- advantage to the proper working of the branch, and a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Harcourt. Dnrrocli, Atkins, and Moraines Hall-Thompson and Brailner Williams, was set np o endeavour to secure central hpndqunr tors, where the various activities ot tne league could be carried on in one place.
