KING GEORGE'S FUND FOR SAILORS

At a meeting of tho Executive Committee of tho Navy League the hon. secretary reported that he had received a donation of £500 from the Masterton Ladies' Auxiliary Branch for tho sailors of '-he Navy and' mercantile marine. Members expressed great appreciation for the _ generous donation, which is quite in keeping with the general patriotic efforts in the Wairarapa district;

A very pleasant afternoon was given fry the friends of Mrs. L. H. Fenu on the evo of her departure from l'ahiatua to reside in Havelock North. The gathering was held in St. Peter's Sunday Schoolroom, on Tuesday.' The. hostesses were Mesdames Hart, J. D. C. Crewe, Nicliolls, Picsse, Dempsey, Bisdee, and King. Tho room was decorated with sweet peas and carnations. Songs wero given by Mesdames Nicliolls and Lilly and Miss H. Nixon, and recitation bv Miss Tulloch. Tho Mayoress (Mrs. 0. D. C. Crewe) on behalf of Mrs. Fenn's many friends, presented her with a beautiful silver cakcbaskct, at tho same time wishing lier God-speed and very good luck in her new 'ibrne. Mrs.- Fonn suitably responded. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed during' ' tho afternoon. Amongst thoso present were Mesdames H. S: Morrison (Ngaturi), Welsh. C. Tulloch, Eglint-on, and M. B.
