THE GERMAN REPORT
(Rec. December 5, 5.5 p.m.) London, December 4. A German official report states:—"Wo threw back the English in many waves northward of Ghcluvelt. Violent fighting occurred between Marcoing and the Peronne-Cambrai Road. We stormed La Vacquerie, and repulsed counter-attacks.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter. RUSSIAN TRENCH SLAVES AT CAMBRAI London, December 4. Mr. Perry Robinson, the "Times" correspondent, states that the Germans aro using Russian war prisoners in the trenches at Cambrai. Some who were captured state that they wero starved and systematically tortured. Many wero bayoneted or shot for their refusal or their inability to work. One camp of five hundred was thus reduced to two hundred and sixty.— "Tho Times." ON THE FRENCH FRONT London, December 4. A French official communique states"There is great artillorv activity on both sides on tho Champagne front, especially in the regions of Tahure' and Maisons de Champagne."—Aus.-N.Z.
