MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE BUSINESS
Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., conducted the hearing of the police cases yesterday.
Albert S. Siramonds was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for failure to apply to bo enrolled in accordance with the Military Service Aot.
Dirk Snykens, Johannes Ooms. and Pierre Depootor were each fined £2 for disorderly behaviour while drunk. Depooter was ordered to pay lis. 6d. for damaging a policemau'is -uniform. John Stephen Harvey, Thomas Sharpe, and John Ouroe were each sentenced to one month's imprisonment for having used obscene language in Grey Street. Also, they were convicted of having been disorderly while drunk and with having used threatening behaviour whereby a-breach of the peace was occasioned. Harvey was ordered to pay for damage done to a policeman's helmet, and Curoe to pay tor damage done to a policeman's uniform. • Karl Roslof ..and Gideon Lindguist, alien seamen, were each fined £2, in default M days' imprisonment, for being ashore without a permit. James Blair Campbell admitted that lie was nn idle and disorderly person. He was remanded for a week.
James Henry Wright (two cases), Thomas Codyre, and Mary Honeycomb were each fined 10s. with costs for failure to send children to school. CIVJTCASES A PARTNERSHIP DEAL. James Edward Collins, railway clerk, proceeded against William Wearne, draper, Petone,' claiming £4, four weekly instalments, said to be due under-a. partnership transaction. Collins went out of the business in which the litigants were partners, and he contended that his capital (£270) was to be refunded by Wcarnq at.the rate of £1 per week.- Defendant said that the agreement to pay plaintiff the capital ended when the business was sold.
Mr. M'Carthy heard the case. Mr. T. Young, with whom was Mr. Turner,' represented the plaintiff, and Mr. J. M. Dale was counsel for the defendant. Plaintiff was nonsuited. WAGES IN LIEU. OF NOTICE. Cecil-A. Biggs claimed £3 from S. Edlinson as wages in lieu of notice. Plaintiff said that he was engaged by defendant to work as a storeman, and when he went to tho job he was told that he was not wanted. Judgment was entered by Mr. ltiddoll, S.M.. for plaintiff for £2 10s. Mr. V. B. Willis appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. D. Jackson for the defendant. CLAIM FOR GOODS.
Bannatyne. and Hunter, Ltd., merchants, Wellington, claimed £32 from J. H. Ross, hotelkeeper, "Dannevirke. The sum of £14 was paid into Court,, and it was said for defendant that the goods were ordered by a former licensee of the hotel, who. sold out before the goods arrived
Mr. W. L. Rothenberg appeared for plaintiff and Mr. Edwards for the'defendant.
Mr. Riddell gave judgment for plaintiff, with costs. JUDGMENTS BY DEFAULT. In the following cases judgment was entered for the plaintiffs by default:— H. K. Robertshaw. v. W. H. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. George E. Robertson was ordered to pay Louis Percival O'Brien £4 10s. 4d. by December IS, in default three days' uupnsonmout. A PROPERTY DEAL. Wm. Lingard and Co., estate agents, claimed £16 17s. (id. from A. Petersen. ■Ine amount was said to be duo as on the sale of a property. Mr. T. Mcave represented the plainkitfs, and Mr. H. E.
