"HYPHENATE" JOURNALISM
ARRESTS AT PHILADELPHIA. The raid upon the offices of the German daily paper "Tageblatt at Philadelphia reveals what we all suspected, viz , that' the German propagandists hero have been receiving money via Mexico, and that a conspiracy to handicap America's preparations is being hatched in the United. States. Amongst the correspondence seized were letters from several prominent Americans in Congress, including Senator La I olette and others, who may be seriously embarrassed bv the disclosure. The "Tageblatt"'had a factory for producing fake cablegrams from London, Berlin. and Amsterdam, reporting col.ossal German victories' and bolstering up the Kaiser's cause m a manner equal to any lie factory in the Fatherland. To' make tTieir news doubly convincing," the "Taeobhtt" editors not onlv wrote al the foreign dispatches,' but gave their readers tho impression that they had been seen and approved by the French, English, and American censors. Leading members of tho staff and the manager have been arrested on a charge of' sedition, and the paper has been seized. This step marks the heginning of the end of .enemy Germannrinted newspapers in the United States. Those rags which do not learn wisdom by the example of the "Tageblatt" will be similarly treated. —London "Telegraph."
