TEN GERMAN ATTACKS IN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS
BRITISH SUCCESS AT PASSCHENDAELE CHAOTIC RUSSIA BOLSHEVIK MINISTER STILL ISSUING ORDERS ' THE OUTLOOK FOR THE ALLIES Later details of the Germans' terrifio attempt to recover their lost ground—and prestige—oil the Cambrai battlefront, 6how that the enemy, feinting on our left with a display of concentrations of troops suddenly struck with tremendous weight at the more thinly-held line on our right, breaking through. The result so far as territorial gains went was of no consequence, while the enemy's losses were appalling. The British gains still represent an advance of six miles, and the situation is secure. Ten German counter-attacks were launched within the space of 24 hours, and all were equally unsuccessful. Operations by cortain of the British battalions on the Passchendaele front resulted in the capture of several strong points north of the ridge. The situation in Russia has undergone very little change. Trotsky, the Leninist Minister for Foreign Affairs, continues to make a display of authority by tho issue of orders. Meanwhile tho anti-Bolshevik movement is growing stronger, and is being extended. The hopes of the Allies are centred upon General s Kaledin. There is no material change in the Italian situation.
