A wireless German official report states that Count von Hertling (Imperial Chancellor), in a speech in, the Reichstag, said: 'We are approaching . the end of a year full of far-reach-ing and decisive events in many theatres. lam proud and thankful that tho arms of Germany and her allies liavo been successful on almost every occasion evorywhero. The Flanders battle has heen uninterrupted since July. The English have had superior numbers and several French divisions have participated, yet, despite the loss of some villages anal farms, tho Gorman front.is unbroken.. The enemy is as far as ever from his object of reaching the Flemish coast •to destroy the submarine.base. The English, recognising the failure in. Flanders, are now ( seeking a .deoision, near Oambrai. Their hopes, based on a use of 'tanks,' have been unfulfilled. The English initial suecess has been parried by the entranca or German reserves. "The glorious advance in Italy holds tho world in suspense. Italy's Army, has lost a considerable portion of -its forces, and at least one-half of its , war material. Booty of the value 'of thousands of millions has . fallen into' our hands. The victories have brought effectivo relief to our West front. The English _ initial successes in Palestine do not influence the general war situation." He eulogised the Navy's exploits in the Baltic. "The Navy stands behind the submarines as a support and reserve. The enemy's filling of thinned ranks of tlw merchantmen with neutral ships will soon reach the limit. The number of ships sunk continually exceeds those newly built.."—Aus.-N.Z.' ' Cablo Assn.-Router.
