"The position is that somo years ago the Imperial Government agreed that consular and diplomatic officers in all parts of the world should bo required to give thoir services for the promotion of Dominion trade as well a3 the trade of the United Kingdom. This fact does not appear to bo understood here.
"I occasionally receive requests from Sew Zealand firms for help and information in trade matters affecting other Dominions or foreign countries. I have always mado it a point to take up these inquiries, and send them myself to the commercial attaches or other officers overseas. lam prepared to carry on this work, and to make the inquiries through my office But it is quite open to the business men of New Zealand to call upon British consular officers themselves for information. I can provide lists of the consular officers and give somo information as to the best avenues of inquiry in particular cases."
Mr. Dalton added that the British Trade Commissioners in various parts of the Empire were required to cooperate with one another, and it was possible for one commtssioner to make use of the services of another commissioner in the gathering of information required by the trading community.
