SPORTS' DAY
FOE, WELLINGTON MEN AT THE FRONT. Many predictions were made yesterday that—granted fine weather—Wellington people to-day would give splendid proof of their remembrance of their own soldiers at the front. Large supplies of desirable goods are assured for every stall. In addition to tho straight-out sales, various stalls will have special articles for raffles. Tickets for surprise packets and the candle-burning, and the watch competitions will be available at each of the nine stalls. The 4ft. candle ami tho watch are on view in the Singer Sewing Machine Company's window, Willis Street.
Mr. H. Seaton (chairman of the Surprise Packets Committee) and a staff of ten assistants had very strenuous exercise yesterday afternoon with the handling of thousands of envelopes. ( The Marist Brothers' (Tasman Street) Boys' Drum and Fife Band win play at the Association football stall (Boulcott Street) to-day, This band will also take part in the march tomorrow afternoon from Government Buildings to the Basin Reserve. The ladies who proved themselves remarkably efficient helpers for Commercial Travellers' Day a few weeks ago will be assisting the sports bodies. About a hundred Boy Scouts will be in the big "team."
