THIRTY-THIRDS' ROUTE MARCH
A TWO DAYS' TRIP. The five companies of the Thirty* third Infantry Reinforcements, A, B, 0, D, and B, which left Featherstou by route march on Tuesday morning, reached Trentham Camp at 11 o'clock yesterday forenoon. The men looked none the worse for their hot march over tho mountain roads. About 850 strong, the troops left Featherston Camp at 5 minutes past 6 on Tuesday morning, the camp band playing them over tho early stages of their journey. The column was in charge of Colonel C. It. Macdonald, I G.S., Chief Infantry Instructor, who marched right through at its head. Colonel N P. Adams, Camp Commandant, marched to tho Summit, "'here the Chief of Staff, Colonel C. M. Gibbon, I G S., met the, troops. Tho companies moved out in the Company. Captain J. 0. iVSA op (0.0. draft) ;B Company, Lieutenant.Kirk, C Company, Lieutenant Taylor; D Company Lieutenant Don; B Company,'Thc°Sunimit was reached after a stiff tramp in still, blazing hot weather, and onl" five men fell out on this trying static of the march. Tho committee cf Wairarapa ladies who have provided refreshments on the hill for so many reinforcements were as indefatigable as ever, and a pleasant two hours rest was enjoyed. From the Summit the troops marched downhill to their Kaitoko bivouac at Collie's Farm, which was reached at 20 minutes to 2 o'clock. Bathing parade, followed, and after lunch sports were arranged, with an al fresco concert in the evening. It was a warm moonlit night, and probably the bivouac was the most successful on' , ever held at Kaitolte. The second day's march started tt 5.30 a.m. yesterday, and tho troops made good' time to Trenthnm. The Camp Commandant, Colonel 11. E- Potter, C.M.G., rode out to meet them, and the camn band played them into camp from Upper Hutt. A feature of this march of the Thirtythirds was the work of the A.S.C. Tho Thirtv-fourth A.S.C., under Lieutc'iant Sharpo, with ton general service wagons, brought blankets, dixies, and other necessary items to the bivouaci The same A.S.C. train continued on to Trentham yesterday, arriving shortly aft«r the troops. , Tho Thirty-thirds will ho reviewed by tho Governor-General this afternoon.
