Afternoon for Soldiers' and Sailors' Mothers.' iUiother of the social aftornoons for the mothers of soldiers and sailors, ] organised by tbo honorary branch ot the- W.N.R. was hold in the , Town Hall yesterday afternoon. There was a.laroo attendance of guests, and this president .of the honorary division (Mrs. O. W. HussellJ, with Mra. Porter (organising secretary) and Mrs. W. Nathan, welcomed them. Her Excellency tlio Countess of Liverpool was unable to bo present on this occasion, and in a noto'expressed her regret that such should bo tlio case. As usual the musical programme which had been arranged by Mrs. Russell was much appreciated, and was contributed to by Mrs. Douglas, Miss Dall, and Miss Caldow with songs, Mrs. Arthur Myers played a violin- solo, and two of Miss Beero's pupils, little Miss I'lorenco Hayworth and Mies.Joan Bcere, were seen in some protty .dances. Miss Shirtcliffc played a pianoforte solo, also some of the accompaniments, Mrs. Morgan and Miss Kdmondson playing others. The lea arrangements, which were admirably carried out, wore in the hands of Mrs. Baldey and her assistants Badges for soldiers' and sailors Shors were sold by Mrs. Anderson and Miss Maddison, a fair nuraher nf tho mothers applying *>r thoni. At a meeting of the women of the combined golf clubs for the Citizens Christmas Gift Fund on Friday next it was reported that everything was going on satisfactorily, and that a supply or saleable produce had been promised for the stall which is to be at Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains's. Miramar, \\ olliugton, Karori, Hutt, and Johnsonvillo Golf Clubs are joining in the elfort, and the stall should be one ot those leading in help. The programme was arranged by Madame Monkman-Demp-ster, assisted by Mr. Dempster, and was of much merit. Tho first part of the programme consisted of vooal and instrumental items, the following contributing :-Miss E. Harris and Mr. L. Keieenberg, a pianotorte duet, Bolero"; Mrs. A. S. Henderson song, "Somewhere a Voice is Calling"; Miss M'Kay, a violin solo; Mr. W. Dempster, a humorous song "Tho BasßOon ; Miss E. Horris, song, "When We Meet"; pianoforte solo "Deuxieme Mazurk," Mr. L. Keieenberg; song, Madame Monkman-Dempstcr. The second part of the programme consisted of a humorous sketch entitled "Men wero Deceivers Ever," m which tho parts were taken by Mrs J. Hopk.ns and Mr. W. Dempster with excellont effect. ' i
