PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY
A RESOLUTION OF LOYALTY ADOPTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Duncdin, November 28. The Presbyterian Assembly received the report of the.committee appointed to consider the question of "The Outlook and trie War." - The coiu'mitteo unanimously resolved to tcncTer the King appreciation of and profound loyalty to his person and throne and Empire. Deploring and condemning war in itself, and believing that the only hope, of its final termination is through the diffusion of the spirit of Christ and the recognition of His authority over nations, the Assembly is nevertheless aware that this war must be waged with inflexible determination, and that there can be no real or stable peace unless the military power of the Central Empires is shattered or the Germanic people themselves realise that their aggression and terrorism have brought them nothing but disaster and the moral condemnation of the whole intelligent world. The Assembly unanimously adopted this resolution.
It was renortocl that the Suste.ntation Fund dividend last year amounted to £233. Authority was given. for payments accordingly. The Rev. A. Whyte paid that the total cost of the eight colleges of the church in huildincs and couipment amounted to £134.000,' and that the annual fees paynhle when thev ononed in February would come.to £40.000.
The Finance Committee reported that the. income of the Assembly Expenses Fund was £49°0, and the expenditure £2571. The expenditure for the current year was estimated at £2700. .
A committee was appointed to _ receive amendments or suggestions throush the r>re.°byt<>ries with the issii" of a new hook order.
It was decided to include the international uniform lessons course in addition to the Australasian graded lessons course for the ensuing year's Sunday school examinations.
Preshyteries were recommended during the coming year to do what they could to raise all minister's stipends to a minimum of £250.
The Board of Governors of the Columba ami John M'Glasiian Colleges were appointed a committee to prepare a scheme of superannuation, and the Governors of St. Andrew's Church College, a committee to prepare a scheme of college text books on Scripture doctrine and the history of the Church.
Regarding Bible Sunday, the motion carried last year was again adopted, the collection to be devoted to the British and Foreign Riblo Society or th" National Bible Society, Scotland. The Assembly will meet in Christchurch next year.
