"You know there's nothing liko being honest and saying what you mean," Mr. David M'Dougall, Mayor of Gore, told the company assembled at Sir Joseph Ward's banquet at Invercargill. Mr. M'Dougall made the remark in explanation of his expressed opinion of tho National Government. Indicating the guest of the evening, Mr. M'Dougall said, "Sir Joseph has said that thoso who, want an election at this timo ought to be hanged. Then I think that tho only way to get rid of the National Government will bo to get plenty of butter-fat, so that we can drown tho Government in it. It would give mo the greatest pleasure to sen "the wholo lot getting round a big vat and gasping for their last breath."
