SOME GOOD BATTING TWO MORE CENTURIES The Wellington cricket championship contest was advanced another stage on Saturday. The weather was beautiful, and there was a fair attendance at tho Basin Keserve, whero some rather interesting cricket was witnessed. East scored'a very comfortable three-point win over tho Returned Soldiers, and Old Boys were defeated by North on the first innings. Several Old Boys' hatsmoj' did well at tho wickets. Beechey topped tho half century by attractive batting, and Tucker and Harris put up a 115 partnership. Tucker was in excellent form, and scored 138. Ho gave a chance at soveu and another late in his innings. The Petone-Trontham match concluded at Potone, and resulted in a win for Trentham. Details of the play follow :— EAST AND RETURNED SOLDIERS. Junior Matches. North v. Old Boys.—Continuing their first innings, Old Boys made 77, Suckling contributing 28, Coleman 21, Smyth 14. Morling took six wickets for 36 runs, and Ward thrco for 17. North sent Old Boys in again. In this innings Old Boys played much bettor, making 186 in a short time. Tho highest scorors were:—Dalton 51 (not out), Coleman 32, Warwick 25, Bay 22, Boosloy 16. The Dalton-Wanvick partnership added 72 to the score, ana tho Coleman-Bay stand added 61. Bowling in the second innings for North, the honours wero divided between Wood, Ward, and Morjing. Tho gamo resulted in an easy win for North by an innings and 65. Marist Old Boys v. Base RecordsBase Records, first innings, 150 runs (Redmond 71, and Valentine 27). Marist, first 1 innings, 180 (Schracder 87, Leunon 22, Mulligan 19, Walter 13, and Moffitt 10). Base Records, second innings, 88 runs. Marist wanted 59 runs to win, and went in at 5.55 p.m., and hit up 83 runs in 35 minutes for the loss of three wickets (Moflitt 25, Schraeder 20, Hayden 29). Mulligan took seven wickets for 12 runs m Base Records' second innings. In the third grade Boys' Institute Old Boys B team scored 91 and 47, and Banks College 218 (Foster 88, Atkinson 73). • Banks College won by an I innings and 80 runs.
SENIOR BOYS' LEACUE. Boys' Institute B, 69 and 91 (Swanwick 15 and 42. Arnold 2.1, Rusterholz 19 not out). Kilbirnie, 55 and 63 for seven wiokets (Lane 28, Lewis 32). Institute won by 14 runs on the hrst innings. Thorndon defeated • Instituto A on Anderson Park after a very close finish by one run on the first innings. Thorndon 84 (Morgan 32, Dalrymple 27) and no wickots for 18 (Morgan not out 10). Instituto, 83 (Higgms 21, Smith 19, Solway 13, Tarrant 12. Bowling for Thorndon, O'Neill took four wickets for 5 runs; Dalrymple, three for 38. For Institute, Prince took two wickets for 6 runs; Solway, three for 25; Mills, three for 35. St. Cuthbert's v. Institute C, at Wakefield Park.—St. Cuthbert's, 166 (H. Charles 40, W. Turvey 37, F. Eton 16 not out. B. Gibson 16, G. Bolt 14, W. Burke 12). Institute C, 25 and I'. Bowling for St. Cuthbert's, W. Scots College, 10 and 20. Y.M.C.A., 99, beat Porirua, 23 and 30, by an innings and 46. Batting for Y.M.C.A'.. M'Phee made 31 and Wilson 22. Bowling for Y.M.C.A., Almao took nine wickots for 16, including the "hat trick," and three for 13, and Wilson seven for 13. Y.M.C.A. B, 110, beat Institute F, 53 and 53, by an innincs and 4 runs. D. Price 33 and Ward 26 were the highest scorers for the Y.M.C.A. Dwyer 22 and 17, Pry 16, and Whitburn 12 wore the highest scorers for Institute. D. Price, six wickets for 20; Jenkins, four for 14, and Christensen, three for 7, bowled best for Y.M.C.A.
