C. Fantham, P. A. Rundlc, E.D..Stokes, J. R. Buchanan, A. R Blank, and H. MTV. Vincent. The-report stated that senior swimming in New Zealand was suffering severely owing to tbe activities in Europe at the present time. During the nast season it was not considered advisable to hold the New Zealand championships, and it was almost certain they would not be held during the present season. However, the season just past would prove a memorable ono in tho history of the sport-in the Dominion. The championship for tho schools of the Dominion was in augurated, and swimming had been made compulsory in State schools where facilities existed. Junior swimming would therefore receive an impetus, and the quality of the work of the association would be greatly improved. During the season one new club had been formed, making a total of ninety-four clubs affiliated. The pronounced success of the meeting had decided the association to make the school championships an annual event, when the New Zealand championships' would be decided. The Yaldhurst Club had presented a shield for competition amongst Canterbury schools, over a series of distances, and diving and a relay race no competitor to take part in more than one_ event. Tho issue of certificates for swimmuig continued to increase in a manner most gratifying a total of 2587 certificates, as against 2228 in 1915-16. The finances of the association were in a sound condition. '■ , The president, in moving the adoption of the report, referred to the interest taken m the junior swimming during the season. The war had taken from the association many of its strongest members, and the swimming frater- ■ nity generally had done as much as any other branch of sport in the matter of sending men to tho front, iHe referred to the very fine performances registered by some of the younger followers of the sport, and. prophesied a bright future for many of those wlfo had shown such good form during the season. . This year the championships would not be held, but tho schools champions would again be given an opportunity of competing against one anothor. The adoption of the report was carried unanimously.
