CONSOLIDATING THE NEW POSITIONS
STORY OF THE CAVALRY OPERATIONS
ITALIANS HOLDING THE ENEMY
RUSSIAN-MOVE FOR AN ARMISTICE
Sir Douglas Haig's latest dispatch to-day states that the-work of consolidating the new gains on the. Cambrai front is now in prograss. . The advance, at" certain points carried tho British line eight miles into the enemy's ground. The British tanks- were soverely tested, but their, casualties were light. The most inspiring feature of the news is the'dispatches covering the operations of the cavalry, whioh, said, one of the correspondents, poured through the gaps made by the tanks and spread-out over tho plain, rounding up and dash- , ingly attacking the enemy. The news from Italy is ' distinctly \ cheering. ■ The Italians, vigorously counter-attacking, have hurled .. back the enemy's massed attacks at several points. In Russia the ■.situation has brought forth no fresh developments. The Bolsheviki •still hold the roins, arid under Lenin's and Trotsky's fantastic ideals ■ are striving to secure'an armistice from the Germans. The recentlyappointed Commander-in-Ohief has been deposed for refusing to ask for tho armistice. ' "
