MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE CASES.
There was a brief sitting of tho Magistrato's Court yesterday. The polico business was dealt with by Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M. ' For insobriety, William Charles Harvey was fined £2, and Edward Valentine 10s. Jobim Valensky was convicted of having absented himself from a certain vessel. He was ordered to forfeit two days' pay. Charles Henry George was charged with vagrancy, but the charge, was withdrawn, and tho defendant was handed over to the military. CIVIL BUSINESS. In the following cases judgment was entered by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., for the plaintiff by default:—Smith and Smith, Ltd., v. A. La Roche. £2 3s. Bd., and costs 175.; Banks College v. Mrs. M. J. Burnet, £5 Is. 9d., and £1 3s. Cd.; Commercial Agency and Alcock and Co. v. T. Stewart, £G 15s. 6d., and £1 3s. Gd.; Commercial Agency and W. Galbrnith and Co. v. C. G. Twidle, £2 11s. 7d., and £1; Frost and Frost v. Mrs. Annie Low, £4 14s. Gd., and 10s.; same v. Joseph Williams, £11 11s. 6d., and £110s. 6d. .James Brooks Hulbcrt, bootmaker, claimed sums amounting to £124 2s. Cd. from C. W. Price, auctioneer. Plaintiff stated that ho had bought boots for £94 2s. Cd. at an auction conducted by defendant, who had stated that tho boots were quite all right. The boots proved worthless. Some which irero sold ivero aftnrwards returned to him. Plaintiff nslcod for a return of tho £94 2s. Cd., and £30 as damages to btisinons. The case standit adjourned for A week.
