The Collector of Customs at Auckland has reported to the Marine Department that' a bottle containing the following message-which has every appearance of being genuine—has been picked up on the beach at Whangapora Bay. on the north-east side of the Great Barrier. The message, which is dated June 10, 1915, 2.30 p.m., reads as follows:—"H.M. schooner Strathcona wrecked on the North Minerva Reef, Lat. 23dcg. 38min.'South, Long. 178deg. 52min. West. All saved, and in the boats, anchored in lagoon. Provisioned for one month. Waiting for chaiK'o of weather to sail for Suva, via Low Islands. . . . Wm. It. Robertson, master, Gillies Avenue, Epsom Avenue, Auckland." It is au odd coincidence that the bottle—if the message was genuine—should have drifted from the plads where the schooner was wrecked almost to the place where she was launched.
