HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD
MONTHLY JfEETING.
Mr. H. Baldwin (chairman), the Rev. H. van Staveren, Messrs. B. B. H. Burn, H. Freeman, G. A. Monk, J. W. M'Ewan, D. Campbell, F. Castle, A. J. M'Cnrdy, G. Petborict. W. J. Thompson, F. T. Moore. Mesdames M'Vicnr, Aitken, and Neill were present at the monthly meeting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board held yesterday afternoon. The chairman welcomed to the board Messrs. A. J. M'Curdy (Hutt County), H. Freeman and G. A. Monk (Horowhenua), F. T. Moore (Makara County), and B. G. H. Burn (City and Suburbs), who have been leturned recently as members. The following recommendations of tho Hosnital Committee were adopted:— "That, seeing the old-age pensions had been increased, old-age pensioners in the Hospital be granted 6s. per month instead of. 4s. as formerly." "That the appeal of the. board on behalf of the dental surgeon being not called up had been deferred for a month." "That ; the appointment of Sister Daniel as sister from October 19 be confirmed." "That Nurses Punter and Williams, having completed their i<mr years' training, .ire now-leaving." "That Mrs. Flora M'Lcan, a valued member of this board, died on October 27, 1917. and that a letter expressing the board's high appreciation of her services and its deepest sympathy be sent to her husband; Mr. Neil M'Lean." "That a donation of £1 Is. had been received from Mr. Kwong On." "That a Bowser tank to hold 535 Imperial gallons be procured for tile purpose of storing motor spirit, at a cost of about £145." "That, as a retaining wall and shed accommodation were urgently needed , at the Clifton Terrace Hospital, tenders be called for this undertaking, and the Finance Committee he empowered to open such tenders and accept tho lowest if in order." "That six children had been admitted -to the llacarthy Convalescent Home, six discharged, and six were still in on November 15, 1917." "That the Hospital accounts for the month, amounting to £7276 12s. 2d., be passed for payment." Th/i Public Health. Committee reported the following work done:—• Ninety-seven disinfections, including diphtheria ward, ?7 rooms in hospitals, two wholo houses, tin shed, and floor Public Trust Office; 71 sanitary inspections and 84 revisits had been made in connection with the above; 23 inhalation treatments had been given; Magistrate's Court had been attended on two occasions; seven milk samples had been., taken in the Lower Hutt. On thn recommendation of the Finance, Property, snd Policy Committee, the following proposals were agreed to: — "That Mr. C. Colquohoun had been appointed clerk of works for the new Kver Hospital." "That the seal of the board be affixed to the following leases:—Board to C. W. Tringham, board to D. Drake, board to Mrs. Stevenson, and to the following assignments: J. Lockie to Mrs. Izard and F. S. Hodson to E. W. Cardale." "That bad debts amounting to £4289 14s. sd. be written off." ' "That the board give its consent to the treasurer arranging for an overdraft up to, say, £5000 during this iinancial year, if found necessary."
