MR. CYRIL MAUDE AS "GRUMPY"
' Until four years ago, Mr. 'Cyril Maude, the distinguished English actor to oippear here under the J, 0. Williamson management, at the Grand Opera Eouse, on Tuesday next for a tcasou of nine nights, confined his stage career exclusively to England, and made the greater number of hie appearances in London, whes« for the last twenty-one years he controlled his own theatre and his own productions. Learning that Mr. Maude had a. tour booked to San Francisco, Mr. ITugh J. Ward, on uehalf of J. 0. Williamson, Ltd., oslted him to come to Australia, for six months. This contract having elapsed, the J. 0. Williamson firm again approached Mr. Maudo'for an extension of time that would give play-goi-rp of tho Dominion an opportunity of seeine (he went actor, and to this J[r. Maude finally agreed.
