King's Armour led with the favourite in tho middle of a strungout field. The last-named ran wide at the turn, and In the run liome King's Armour won hy a couple of lengths, while nn outsider in Skedaddle beat the favourite by a neck. Namur, Bioomine, and Birltenetta were the next to finish. ' There weto numerous soratcliings in (he Ashhurst Oup,- but it was a ;ood getting race. At tho start Orleans and Ohiwai went out, and led the field at a good X>aoe. At six furlongs the pair had the xost strung out, with Eoso Pink and Detroit prominent amongst the others, Bounding the bend. Boss Pink pointed tho way, and in tho straight she finished hest, and scored by a' neck from Hash Lady, "who came from a long way back. Orleans was third, and Fore next. The ■winder scored in the same event last yern.
'Horsemanship had a lot to do -with the ■"success of Kahumanga la the Hack Welder Handicap. At tho start Ohoreka and Kahumanga led Sail Homo and Poly> ■nesian. Roundjng the bend Sail Homo lost his position, and Maraetotara joined Kahumanga. This pair wore first into the Btraight, but ■wcro then challenged by Polynesian. A great finish resulted in a. :noso victory for Kahumanga with Polynesian a neck away, Ooral King was fourth.
