A SPORTS DAY
BIG SURPRISE PACKET VENTURE.
Friday of next week has been set aside as the big "Sports Day" in Wellington in aid of the Christmas Girt Fund, and from the nature of the preparations in hand it should be one of the livest collecting days Wellington has experienced since the need for such offorts became apparent. Already, there are evidences of a healthy rivalry between tho holders of the various stalls, which are to be individually controlled by the following cluk:—Bowling clubs, Wellington Racing Clubs, tennis clubs, Rugby Football Associa* tion, Wellington. T£antball Association (Soccer), hockey clubs, Wellington Cricket Association, and Wellington Swimming Association, and possibly ono stall managed by tho children. One of the features of the day will be a big surnriso packet scheme that is calculated Jo everyone to speculate Among the special attractions to be offered _ad prizes will be a section of land at Miramar, valued approximately at £200, £200 worth of New Zealand Governmcnt war bondjjj and £125 worth of grocery orders. In connection with the effort of tha bowling clubs of Wellington, the Wellington, Victoria, and To Hiwi Clubs are to provide produce (which will include anything that may bo purchased in a grocer's shop): Thorndon and Newtown, cakes; Seatoun and Hataitai, sweets and bran tub; Eastbourne, Karori, Lyall Bay, Khandallah. and Johnsonvillo jumble stall (anything and everything). Bowlere wives are being communicated with by circular by the presidents of each of the clubs soliciting their maximum aid for Sports Day.
