SIR JOSEPH WARD AT BLUFF
WELCOMED BY CIVIC AUTHORITIES. 3y TeleKraDh-Press Association. Bluff, November 20, | A very cordial welcome was| extended to Sir Josoph ■ Ward on his arrival at Blufi this afternoon. Ho was met at the railway station by the Mayor and councillor* nnd a largo gathering ot townspeople. A congratulatory speech was delivered by the Mayor, the Minister making a brief but appropriate reply. Subsequently lie was entertained at dinner at tho Club Hotel by the Mayor and councillors, and at the conclusion of the function Sir Joseph Ward epofco for some time concerning his experiences during his recent trip to England and' tho continent. He paid a tribute to the British Navy, and eulojHsed the work that had been dono from the very outset of the war. Ho also paid a tribute to the Army, and to the work done by the late Lord Kitchener It was tho wonderful prestige of Lord Kitchener, who was known as a great soldier, that had been to a largo extent responsible for, the raising of Britains largo Army. Ho did not think they could give too great recognition to the work he had! done in raising a great army. It was generally recognised that but for the groat strength of the Motherland and the oversea Dominions we would have been overrun by bermany. We had taken up arms in defence of oor own rights and tho rights of smnll nations, and tho end of tic war must come on Hip basis of a lasting peace. Otherwise Jhe Jlacrificce made would have beon in vain.
