MONOWAI EUNNDfG LATE. The Monowai will sail from Auokland to-morrow for Wellington, via Gisborno and Napier. She is due here on Saturdaj— ono day late —and will sail in the evening for the south. It lias not been decided whether she will omit to call at Lyttelton or not
The Defender will sail at noon to-morrow for Picton, Greymouth, and Hokitika. At I the latter port she will load timber for Wellington. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co. advise that the Alexander will arrive here to-morrow from Wanganui, and will sail in the afternoon for Nelson and tile West Coast. The Kennedy was due here today from Tarakohe, but now she will not arrive, tho Alexander coming in her stead. The JEgakuta will sail to-morrow for Greymottth to load for Wellington. The Putiki is duo irere this afternoon from Wanganui, and will Bail to-morrow for Lyttelton and Dnnedln The John, which is loading timber at Kaipara for Lyttelton, will from that port proceed to Timaru, and then to Wellington, ariving here about to-day week. London oable advices received in Sydney state that Mr. .T. JTavelock Wilson, general president of the Isational Seamen's Union, is forming a Merchant Servico League, open to every citizen of the Em pire, with a. minimum subscription of is a year, members being pledged to a refusai to employ Germans or purchase or use German goods for two years after the war. Ifr.. Wilson is hopeful of securing five million subscribers.
At. a meeting of the Wellington Har. bour Board Permanent Employees' Association, held on Friday, a new agreement to be submitted to the board, providing for a. properly-constituted Appeal Board, was read and approved. It was decided to urge the board to improve the conditions of tho permanent labourers in the wharfinger's department by granting them an increaßc of 2s. per day. It was urged that the present restrictions were such that the men did not get opportunities to supplement their wage oi 10s. 6d. per day by -working overtime, except nndcr special circumstances, and with the alarming increases of cost of commodities it was nol possible to make ends meet.
Tho To Anau will leave Auckland to-mor-row direct for Wellington, arriving hero on Friday night or Saturday morning. Sho will take the hulk Dartford in tow at Wellington for Port Chalmers, and sail on Saturday night. It is probablo that general oargo will bo taken in at this port. Tho Corinna will arrive here to-morrow morning from New Plymouth, and will sail on Thursday direct for Dunedin, taking general cargo from this port. Cargo for Oamaru and Tiinaru will be received oJso. Tho Union Company advise that the Kini will sail fom Weatport this afternoon for Wellington. A full cargo of coal will be put out here. Tho Union Company's collicr Kaitangala will sail from Westport to-morrow afternoon with a cargo of coal for Wellington and Auckland. She will leave Wellington on Friday. Tlio Magic will sail to-morrow for North Oii.jio to load coal for P.icton. The llinemoa finished landing stores at Fnrewell Spit, and sailed at 11 o'clock yesterday morning for French Pass. She is duo here to-day, and will sail on Friday for her round trip to tho southern lighthouses. The Wootton left Ijytlolton at, 6 p.m. yesterday for Wellington, and is due hero t,hts afternoon. To-morrow sho will return to Lyttelt-on.
Mr. J. Dowling, first mate on the Kakapo, has come ashore, and Mr. A. Purvis has succeeded him.
Tho Richardson steamer Kahu sailed at 2 o'clock this moruing for lower stations on the East Coast, whore 6hc will load wool for Wellington, returning here to-morrow. She will sail in the afternoon for tho "East Coast to load another cargo of wool fr Wellington.
The Baden I'well wiil sail early this afternoon for Wanganui and New Plymouth. Cargo will be received until 11.45 a.m.
