SWIMMING CARNIVAL
« : - EVANS BAY CLUB'S SEASON I . OPENED. A swimming carnival, to mark the opening of the season of tho Evans Bay Swimming Club was hc'.d on Saturday afternoon. The weather was ideal, and the ground about the club's sheds was covered with people. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) opened the carnival. Several stalls were open for business, and a satisfactory sum was collected for the Citizens' Christmas Gift Fund. Mesdames Boot, Harris, and Martin were in charge of the stalls, and Mrs. Ayling was in charge of the girls' races. Mr. Martin was the starter, and Mr. JToavcy judged the diving competitors. At intervals in the afternoon tho Patriotic Society's Band rendered selection of musio. Tho different laces were competed for in good numbers, and tho results were:— Ladies' Maiden Race (50yds.).—Miss Lapworth, 1; Miss Donncly, 2. Time, 51 l-ssec. Men's Maiden Race (50yds).—Murdock, 1; Campbell, 2. Time, 35eec. Men's Handicap (50yds.).—Turner 3sec„ 1; Thomas, 4sec., 2. Time, 22isec. Ladies' Handicap (50yds).—Miss Buckmaster, 1; Miss Rigg, 2. Men's 50yds. Race (breast stroke).-— Thomas, scr., 1; Arnlrew, lOsec., 2. Time, lmin. 4'isec. Ladies' 100 yds. Race (breast-stroke).— Miss Allen, 1; Miss Aitken, 2. Time, lmin. 48sec. • • . , Men's.
